The Ebenezer Chapel built in 1846 is a substantial stone building which was originally a Methodist Chapel and School Room and has been converted into a large holiday home with character. This skilful conversion still retains its marble plagues, chapel doors, exposed beams, hymn board, and the original pulpit and railings, which have been installed around the raised galleried dining area. The split level chapel with its river views can accommodate a large group of 22 guests, with a 38ft galleried lounge and the two lower floors of the chapel are suitable for less mobile visitors. Being in central England it is ideal for groups of people travelling from different parts of the country to meet easily and spend time together.
The chapel is in the conservation mill village of Milford in the wooded valley of the River Derwent. There are several real ale pubs and eating places close at hand and plenty of walks from the door. It is north of Derby and very close to Belper, which is a thriving market town with many activities organised throughout the year. eg food fairs, well dressings, beer festivals, poetry trails, open gardens and arts festivals etc. The chapel being on the southern fringes of the Peak District is convenient for visiting Derbyshire’s many attractions including Alton Towers, Kedleston Hall, Chatsworth, Matlock Bath and lovely stone villages of the Peak Park. See the tourist page on the web site for full tourist information with web links to each attraction. There is so much to do in Derbyshire!
Derbyshire’s beautiful landscape lends itself to outdoor activities of walking, caving, rock climbing, gliding, canoeing and a variety of water sports found at Carsington Water. Other interests catered for include fishing, horse riding, tennis, bowls and golf with several golf courses nearby. The sports centre in Belper which is a mile away has a good sized swimming pool.
